Suggest Treatment For Seborrheic Dermatitis

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: I have seborrheic dermatitis as diagnosed by a skin specialist. It affects my face around the nose, above the eye brows, on the chin and near the ears. I've been using the usual prescriptions of desonide & elidel, as well as using nizoral shampoo. Sometimes the condition improves, other times it returns. Is there a better way to manage it using less potent medications? I heard even urine can help. What about a moisturiser? I sometimes use Cetaphil moisturing lotion. I would really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you, XXXX.

Brief Answer:
combination of clobetasone and miconazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremp bagic.com. I have read your query.
I understand your concern.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a highly recurring condition. It is basically due to excess secretory activity of sebaceous glands. Role of Malasezzia furfur is also implicated which is a fungus.
So I prefer to advise a combination of clobetasone and miconazole available in cream formulation in market.
It is steroidal and antifungal combination .
You have already being applying desonide which is a steroid and elidel which is pimecrolimus *good for maintenance therapy* .
I also advise my patients to apply antifungal shampoo like nizral to apply over affected area on face aling with scalp.
You may try doing this. Discuss this with your doctor.
And once the condition resolves, continue the medications for maintenance atleast once a week.
I hope it helps.

Thank you, doctor.
I forgot to mention I alternate Nizoral shampoo with Selsun Blue, although I haven't tried Nizoral on my face. I will.
You mentioned a combination of clobetasone and miconazole. Do you know the name of any of these creams? Do they require a prescription?
Do you know of any more natural treatments? Long term use of steroids, etc. is not a good idea, I believe.
I have seen some recommend a change of diet, and others apply urine to the face. I am unsure about any Ayurvedic options. Perhaps you have some further thoughts on these or other options.
Kind regards, XXXX.

Brief Answer:
eumosone M cream

Detailed Answer:
Yes long tern of steroids is not advisable. It should be judiciously used. As I mentioned make it once a week afterwards. Later you can make it once in weeks . Eumosone M contains both Clobetasone and Miconazole. Here in XXXXXXX it s available as over the counter product. Still I advice my patients to get prescription so that you can apply it under doctor's supervision.
Urine application on face is not a practical idea. Also it is unlikely to give you any benefit.
You can apply Aloe vera XXXXXXX from fresh leaves on scalp and face so as to reduce the seborrhoea.
You can continue to use cetaphil moisturiser.
I hope I am able to solve your query.
Take care.
