Brief Answer:
Sciatica

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been diagnosed with Sciatica. This is a pinched nerve in your buttock that is causing pain from your buttock and racing down the back of your leg. The offending muscle, the piriformis, is in spasms and causing pressure on the femoral nerve. The muscle relaxant is there to help reduce the spasm of the piriformis and may take several days to weeks to resolve. To help reduce that spasm I recommend my patients see a therapeutic massage therapist who can work deep to relief the spasms of that muscle. It maybe painful at first when they massage because it is so deep but it will help. I found that relief of this muscle spasms will cause the pain to resolve. So I direct most of my attention to getting this muscle treated.

The other medication Naproxen is for pain relief. I recommend you continue to take the naproxen but you can also add Tylenol for in between pain

In summary
1. Sciatica Muscle spasms of the piriformis muscle pinching the femoral nerve
2. Muscle relaxants to reduce spasm
3. Massage therapy to assist relaxation of muscle
4. Naproxen for pain
5. Tylenol for break through pain

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care concerns or questions. You may contact me again if you have any additional questions or comments
