Suggest Treatment For Recurring Oral Sores

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: I have been under intense stress for the last 9 months. Over the last 4 I've developed numerous issues in my mouth. I've had 16 visits to dentist, primary, allergist, oral surgeon head/neck oncologist. I have swelling under my tongue (glands?) which are painful even when I drink water. If I move my tongue too much, the left gland under my tongue looks like a cut. The glands under my chin are sore not swollen. The side of my tongue was biopsied last week. It is just inflamed thickened skin. My bloodwork is fine. I now have a white ring that is sore on the tip of my tongue. Sometimes the roof of my mouth burns. I have a small bump inside lower lip that you can barely see and my upper and lower lips have swelled three times over last 4 months. I haven't been able to eat anything except deli turkey or scrambled eggs for weeks. I am 43 years old, female. 5'4", 230 lbs. I do have oral allergies to some fresh fruits and vegetables but allergist does not see this as allergies. She did give me an epipen just in case. Taking zyrtec daily does not help. Prednisone does not help under my tongue at all.

Brief Answer:
seems to be stress/ gastro-intestinal- needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that your are having recurrent oral sores. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any problem related to stomach (pain abdomen or loose stools) ?
Are you on any medications (anti depressants, pain killers) ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it occurs to be due to stress or due to intestinal disorders or due to food allergy.

As such, your blood work, biopsy, multiple consultations with different specialists confirms there is no local pathology, might be the root cause could be due to stress or due to gasto-intestinal disorders like chrons disease or celeac disease.

I suggest the following measures, to overcome your mouth sores.

1. Get gastro-enterologist opinion, if necessary endoscopy for acid reflux (hyperacidity can cause ulcers in throat and roof of mouth).

2. No lymph node enlargement confirms no active infection, there by no antibiotics.

3. Take anti-allergic medication with combination (citrizine + montelukast) daily one tab at bed time for 2-4 months (to cover allergies)

4. Multi vitamins tabs for 1 month.

5. avoid sore fruits, spicy diets hot drinks, do brushing with soft brush.

6. Take plenty of water.

7. apply anesthetic preparation containing local applications like clenora thrice daily.

8. Last but not least, stress free life style.

Kindly discuss with your treating doctor, about this instructions and medications, some of the medications, requires medical prescription.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
