Suggest Treatment For Post Nasal Drip And Chronic Cough

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: I have had a chronic cough (usually triggered by a 'tickle' in the back of my mouth/throat) for a while now which produces clear or chalky white phlegm.

My doctor checked my lungs (using a stethoscope), and said it's post nasal drip.

Should I get a 2nd opinion

Brief Answer:
I strongly suggest taking a second opinion by another doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I read your query and understood your concerns.

You are complaining of chronic cough which produce clear or chalky white phlegm. This may be a sign for pulmonary problems, which can’t be ruled out by checking lungs with stetoschope.

This is why I strongly suggest taking a second opinion by another doctor.

Moreover if you were my patient I would suggest:
-     Stop smoking
-     Chest x ray
-     Throat culture (to detect any bacteria, fungal or virus in the throat)
-     Respiratory function tests
-     Consult a pulmonologist
If the test are normal than your symptoms may be due to GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease).

Hope you will find this information helpful!
Wish you health!
