Question: I have been having rectal gas for awhile now but in the past few days now I am getting a discharge with it
and the gas just comes on without warning. What should I do and why is this happening?

Brief Answer:
Needs work up for incontinence

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Flatulence and gas with discharge is likely an age related bowel decline and recent discharge unalarmed is likely an incontinence. Dicyclomine is an anticholinergic and its function is to slow the bowel movements and help the flatulence.

You should get evaluated slightly for bowel movements, anal manometry, x ray defecography, colonic transit studies to rule out the incontinence and its cause. Meanwhile, more fibrous diet, more fluids intake and avoiding dairy, fatty, spicy and processed foods. Prefer fresh fruits and vegetables and see if it helps.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

I couldn't get an apt with my Gastroenterologist until January 20. Is it advisable
to wait or should I go to my primary care physician and see if she can get me in
sooner. I can only see a PA at my Gastroenterologist - not too pleased with this.
Please advise. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It can wait

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Appointment with a gastro may be hectic. But its not a medical emergency so yes it can wait. Till then follow the diet and lifestyle modifications we discussed above and wait for the 20th january appointment.

I hope it helps.
