Brief Answer:
How bad are your diarrheal episodes?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diarrhea that you have reported. How many times do you visit the bathroom in a day? Are the stools watery or soft in consistency? Is there any mucus in it or blood in it?

Diarrhea for 5weeks is termed chronic diarrhea. Most chronic diarrhea is not caused by an infection unless otherwise specified. Conditions that cause chronic diarrhea revolve around poor digestion, poor absorption or food intolerance. These are the various areas that need to be evaluated. Have you ever had a stool analysis done and if yes, what were the findings?

Simplotan(Tinidazole) generally treats diarrhea in 5days. If your symptoms do not get better, i will suggest that you seek further evaluation and treatment probably by a gastroenterologist. 5 weeks is enough time to warrant a specialist consult for a more detailed evaluation and treatment.

As for probiotics, it is another chapter. These are greatly considered when all other causes of diarrhea are not identified and treatment does not respond as expected. I will use this is one of the last options and not the first line of treatment.

For now, stay well hydrated by drinking as much water as needed. Diarrhea never kills but dehydration does. Make sure you drink enough!

I would appreciate answers to the above questions. I would provide more information accordingly. I hope this helps. I wish you well. Let me hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Brief Answer:
I will suggest no further action at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

With the frequency of stools being normal, absence of pain in the tummy, and no blood in stools, I will suggest that you do not seek any further aggressive medical interventions at this time. Monitoring should permit us gather more information and cat on and could be all the is needed at this time. Over treatment could rather prove to be of no additional benefit if not harmful. This is clearly not diarrhea from an infectious process.

Keep me posted and updated about the progress in at most a weeks time. I expect spontaneous improvement over time.
