default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Our 10-month old daughter (weighs about 16 pounds) has a stomach that is distended and that is very hard. She's being crying over the past two hours off and on. We've gave her Equate gas drops about and hour ago but haven't seen a change in her. We think she has gas, but she hasn't experienced any stomach issues since she was about 3 months old. When she isn't crying she is cooing.

Brief Answer:
This could be abdominal colic/gaseous distension

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for posting the query on this platform

Abdominal colic is one the most common causes of persistent crying in this age.
Persistent crying causes swallowing of atmospheric air and this can cause abdominal distension.
Equate drops contains simethicone and it helps in relieving colic and also decreases flatulence.
I wont get overly worried in this condition as you have already given the anticolic medication and crying has been stopped.Observe her for some duration and I hope she would recover.
Sometimes this may be premonitory symptom of some intestinal infection and if there is vomiting or loose stool consult your pediatrician for evaluation and management accordingly.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Thanks and regards.
