Suggest Treatment For Persistent Constipation With Bowel Movements Only Once Every Week

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Oct 2023
Question: Was having constipation, one BM a week. My doctor put me on fiber chewies and a probiotic. Things seemed to improve but recently I passed a lot of gas and was starting to have VERY soft bowels. My doctor suggested I stop the chewies and probiotic, which did about 3 weeks ago. These soft stools continued as well as the gas. I purchased Gax X 2 days ago as well as a peppermint oil capsule. I have taken the gas X after eating for 2 days as well as the peppermint capsules 1/2 before I eat. I had a rectal exam for hemorrhoids a week ago. The specialist said they should not cause you any problems. I also had my routine colonoscopy in Sept. 2017 with a few benign polyps removed. I have been on the Weight Watcher Program since March 2017 and have lost 35 pounds with 15 more to go. My recent blood work was "excellent" as the doctor said. I am a happy, 75 year old woman that would sure like some help with my bowel issues. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Probably irritable bowel syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

My name is dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to irritable bowel syndrome.
This condition is characterized by changes in bowel movements such as constipation, diarrhea and bloating.

To confirm that diagnosis I suggest the following examination :
-an IGg blood test for food allergies
-a stool test to exclude other problems like infection or yeast

Some advice that I can give you are:
-try digestive enzymes to help break down food
-take food supplement which contains zinc, magnesium and vitamin A
-Also fish oil can help to stabilise the gut.
-avoid everything can trigger the symptoms such such as chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, carbonate drinks
-avoid large meals
-avoid fried and fatty foods

After the examinations you can come back to me for further treatment.

Hope my answer was helpful.
If you have any other questions feel free to contact me again.
Kind regards!
