Question: I am 32 yrs old female, single with asthma on treatment. 6 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with peripheral retinal degeneration and underwent urgent laser procedure twice in 5 days. My dr instructed to come back if flashes or floaters increase. Well, they came back after severe cough for 3 days. Problem is I hated the laser and I dont wishe to undergo it again. Is there any alternative treatment for my condition? thank you

Brief Answer:
Cryotreatment is available as alternative to laser.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to. Health care Magic.

I am DR. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having flashes and floaters following laser for peripheral retinal degeneration.
This requires evaluation by ophthalmologist by indirect ophthalmoscopy to look for the status of retinal degeneration following laser. Laser is done to seal and isolate the part of the retina from the normal retina to prevent development of retinal tear or retinal detachment in future. During healing process following laser flashes and floaters are seen. They can also be seen if the laser is not complete.
Hence first evaluation has to be done to find out the cause. If it is a part of healing then no further treatment is required. If it requires treatment then it can be done by laser.
The other alternative treatment available is use of cryotherapy. This can be done in case of more posterior lesions. However cryotherapy is not done routinely as laser is simple procedure.
But if you want to avoid laser it is the only alternative available.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for evaluation and to decide whether treatment is required or not and based on that decision regarding further treatment can be done.

Do write back to me with the examination reports and for further questions.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
