Question: My wife has been going to group at Redlands community hospital for 3 months. Very little improvment not wanting to go very affraid to leave the house. Has only been like this this year. Wont even talk to her son on the phone any more.I have been sucessful in getting her to go to group 3 times a week. I have never met or talked to her doctor. She sees her doctor at group every week. She has dilusional thoughts. I tell her they are not true, but it doesn't do any good. If she doesn't go to gr
oup, they will not prescribe her meds. They only give her a 1 month supply. She is taking 600mg seroquil .5mg ativan 2 daily 2.5 haliperoal once in the morning. What can I do to help her?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

The best things you can do for her is to ensure she takes her medication every day as prescribed, and to ensure she remains in treatment by making sure she continues to attend her groups. Delusions and paranoia can really only be effectively treated in the long run by antipsychotic medication. So I would focus on making sure she is getting and regularly takes her Seroquel.

This is all relatively new behavior in the last year. Do you think she can improve over time. She is taking the seroquil regularly. She has been taking the 600 mgs for the past 3 months, when she went to the hospital.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I would expect her to improve greatly over time. It can sometimes take some time, even several months, but I would expect some improvement as time goes by. It is imperative she continue to take her Seroquel regularly to maintain gains and prevent worsening of her paranoia.
