Suggest Treatment For Painful Bump On Inner Left Buttock

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Sep 2014
Question: I have a painful bump on my inner left butt cheek, which resembles a large pimple. The pain started out as what I thought was a hemorrhoid above my anus, but after a few days I noticed the bump on my inner left cheek, not particularly near the anus. I'm not sure if this is just a harmless pimple, related to a hemorrhoid in some way, or possibly the sign of something more serious. What I do know is that it hurts. Also, about 15 years ago, I had a cyst appear in the same area. It grew quite large and eventually popped, but I never had surgery to remove it. This doesn't look like a cyst, but how would I know? Please help!

Brief Answer:
Possibly anal fistula or pilonidal sinus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic. From your description, I think this may be either an anal fistula or a pilonidal sinus. The pain and discomfort suggests an infection.
An anal fistula is a small channel that develops between the anus and the skin. It is likely to become infected and cause pain.
A pilonidal sinus is also a channel that develops, usually between the butt cheeks. This can also become infected.
It would be difficult to make a definitive diagnosis without examination. Therefore, I suggest you see your doctor. Both conditions may need antibiotics to treat followed possibly by surgery. In the meantime keep the area hair-free and clean and dry. Regularly bathing will help.
I hope this is of help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
