Question: I have been diagnosed with costochronditis and have been suffering from acute stinging pain on my left side, close to the 5th rib. I have taken 5 injections of sarapin, but so far have not received my relief. Should I consider taking a cortisone injection instead?

I ask this because the pain is near the sternum/5th rib, not far from the heart. How safe would a steroid injection be when it is administered so close to the heart? That was my concern.

Thank you, The pain is located just under the skin in the muscle in the spot close to the sternum, halfway between nipple and sternum..
