Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: Hi,

My mom is 46 yrs old nearing menopause stage. Her BP/Sugar levels are normal & HB count is 9.2.
She gets pain in the back both upper & lower back and in the knees. Sometimes she observes nerve twisting pain in lower back. Please help us what the problem could be. Will it be a problem with bone (or) nerve (or) something else?
She took vitamin/calcium/iron tablets as per doctors advice but nothing worked out. Then they suggested to take X-RAY/MRI to find out if any issues in that area.

Thanks,
XXXX

Dear Madam,

Thanj you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I will like to tell you that , it looks more related to bone issues . I would like to see your doctors prescription if you can attach it . Plus please mention the duration , type of pain , any sensory deficit if she is having . Any other important point you want to mention so that we can help you out in best possible way .

Take care.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back .

From your description it looks like Mechanical Low Backache which is caused by degenerative changes in the spine which may also cause nerve impingement but in your mothers case I dont think nerve is involved as there is no shooting radicular pain . You treating doctor has rightly suggested you to go for X Ray and MRI ,as these are prerequisites in your case to identify the exact changes . when you get these done send the reports to me I will guide you further .Till then take the medicines as your doctor has prescribed .
