default
Posted on Tue, 15 Nov 2016
Question: I have pain in my lower leg on the inside of my leg about 4 inches up from my ankle. Do not remember injuring it. Just came on suddenly. Not very painful, no swelling, leg blood flow normal- pain persists for about 5 weeks. Icing and hot baths help. I can walk normally but am concerned because 17 years ago had ruptured posterior tendon to the other foot but this pain not in the same place and do not have the same symptoms. I am a swimmer and swim every day for an hour. thank you!

Brief Answer:
It can be due to muscle pull or stress fracture

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain in that position is usually due to stress fracture and it is common at your age. I would suggest you to get x ray of the ankle with leg. It will tell us about any hair line stress fracture. In case there is fracture you may need splint for six weeks.
Even if fracture is not there, splinting will be helpful, along with calcium and vitamin D3 tablets. Avoid standing for long time in same position or walking fast. No problem with swimming. You can continue to do that.
I hope your doctor will also advise same.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
