Question: Dear Doctor,
Recently I had aL4 laminectomy and L4-5 decompression. Right sided exposure- hemilaminectomy of L4 including partial facetectomy of right L4-5 was done on the right side. Dcompression of the right L5 root which was severely stenosed by ligamentum flavum was achieved. Wound closed in layers after meticulous hemostasis. Today is the 22nd day after my operation, and even now I am having pain down my buttocks which radiates down my right leg till my toes. I am unable to raise my waist up while lying on my back. Due to this pain I am also unable to walk properly- my steppings are not proper. I am also doing physiotherapy. Could you please suggest whether I can do some massage from waist downwards of my right leg, specially thigh and culf muscles. Medicine prescribed are - Hifenac 200mgSR Tab. twice daily, Sirdalud 2mg Tab, thrice daily. Is there anything else you could suggest to relief me from this pain?
I shall be waiting for your reply. With regards,

Brief Answer:
You can also take Pregabalin

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
i have studied your case and I can assure you than nothing is wrong with your surgery. After decompression nerve takes some time to recover and that is why you are still felling some pain. Some time it can be due to irritation of nerve during surgery which can cause such symptoms.
I would suggest you to take Pregabalin and Methylcobal tablet daily after discussing with your doctor. You can also do massage and there is no harm in that.
Some patients may need steroids for short periods to take care of nerve edema.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
