Suggest Treatment For Obsessive Sexual Behavior

Question: Hello doctor, I'm having big problems with my husband as he is 57 and has symptoms of compulsive sexual behaviour. He seems to look for sex pretty much all the time, eager for porno movies, lack of platonic touches. Every single touch is either on my breasts or sexual organs. I don't mind a normal sex live but he definitely changed in the last few years and it's like sex became an obsession. What advice might you have for me?

This type of behavior can be either a part of mood disorder or a obsessive-compulsive(OC) spectrum disorder.

This type of compulsive sexual behaviour will need drug treatment.

Discussion and raising awareness alone is just not sufficient.

In my opinion, anti-obsessional drugs like fluoxetine or sertraline (prescription drugs) should be given to him if this is the part of OC spectrum disorder.

In case of mood disorder, mood stabiliser drugs like divalproex (prescription drug) would be useful.

A thorough evaluation by a psychiatrist is must to initiate proper treatment.
