Brief Answer:
Nebulization would provide better relief. Home kits available.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections. However, there is an allergic component that is also associated. This is responsible for the mucus in your throat - it is called post nasal drip. Taking some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily should help.

The infection has caused spasm of the respiratory airways, leading to wheezing and laboured breathing. Salbutamol inhaler or nebulization would provide relief. This is important.

I've been using steam with eucalyptus oil and this seems to help temp.
Should I return to my GP? I've also wondered if it is trachitis?

Thanks for writing back.

Eucalyptus oil can only offer you partial relief but the mainstay of treatment would be nebulization. You may feel free to return to your GP and discuss about it.

Trachea is a particular part of the respiratory tract. -itis indicates inflammation. Tracheitis indicates an infection or inflammation of the trachea. In your case there is inflammation of respiratory tract infection, where exactly, it is hard to comment without a clinical examination.
