Question: Hi, I'm a 48 year old man I have a lump in my chest lower right of my sternum. I'm always in a lot of pain it's hard to breath or lay on my right side or on my stomach. I have had tests including CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, lab work, & ex-rays, the doctors say the lump doesn't show up on . I have seen multiple doctors including 2 surgeons and they all have told me there is definitely a lump that they feel and see and they have no idea what it is. No one will do anything to figure it out or help me. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Please request direct communication between your radiologist and doctors

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have come across many patients having a problem similar to what you are having.

The fact that 2 surgeons have said that there is a possible lump shows that a better communication is to be requested between your doctors and the radiologist because any significant lump is visualised if it is there and if there is a prominent bone which is being felt as a lump then that will also be obvious during a review reading of your ultrasound, CT and MRI scans.

I suggest you request your surgeon to be in communication and talk directly to the doctor who has reported your ultrasound CT or MRI scans.

In some occasions, there can be inflammation of the ribs near sternum and this is called osteochondritis. This condition is not well seen at times on CT and MRI scan. There is a lot of pain and patients are given pain medicine for few weeks to months.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
