Suggest Treatment For Loose Motions And Vomiting In Child

Question: My child 2 years old is having loose motions from 2 days. Earlier he was vomitting so Dr. Prescribed vomikind and walamycin. Vomiting stopped and loose motions started so he prescribed ascazin and ors. He has not eaten for 2 days and is having frequent loose motions. Pls suggest whether this is proper line of treatment. What next if loose motions dont stop .

Thanks for writing to us.
Usually loose stools in this age is viral in nature.
You mentioned that your child previously had vomiting and this loose stools could be an extension of the same viral infection.
You can continue to give the medicines your.doctor has prescribed. They will definitely help in controlling loose.stools.
I usually give zinc (ascazin in your prescription ) at 20 mg for 2 weeks.
This will help in controlling symptoms and faster recovery.
Don't worry it will settle in few days.
Ensure Ors is given every few minutes as sips to keep hydration adequate.
Ensure he passes urine atleast 6 times a day.

If no improvement and he becomes dull with low urine output consult your doctor again to assess need for intravenous fluids.
