Suggest Treatment For Labral Tear

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: X-ray showed slight flattening and irregularity of the subchondral plate of the femoral head. MRI results show hip dysplasia with degenerative changes, superior and anterior labral tear, tiny anterior labral cyst and partial tear of ligamentum teres. 50 year-old female, very active, trying to avoid surgery. Is there any evidence of regeneration of the labrum through non-surgical means (i.e. Platelet Rich Plasma, or other means) or am I stuck facing arthroscopic surgery?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is best option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
In case of a labral tear it is best to get it repaired arthroscopically. All other conservative treatments need immobilization and you may not be pain free for a long time. The chances of complete recovery are also lesser with the other treatment options. Physical therapy and local steroid injections are used for weeks to reduce the inflammation and to help the recovery.
Surgical repair will help in an early and complete recovery. It is best to get an arthroscopic repair done.
I hope this answers your query.
