default
Posted on Fri, 26 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, My daughter is 4 years and 2 months old this year has been really tough for us. She is getting high fever bad throat (Cough and cold). To cure we have to give her nebulizer with levolin or budisol. She vomits and releases cough.
She gets better and after few days or month same thing repeats. We consulted couple of doctors and they all say its normal. From last one month she started with foam coming out while sleeping. It seems she is not able to breath but doctor says its normal, but fever and cough and cold every month or the second month is little worrying. Please suggest.... Moreover is nebulizer safe for kids...
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to airway Hyper reactivity

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Recurrent respiratory infection in child is likely to be due

1. Persistent Hyper reactivity of airway following infection

2. Reduced immunity

3. Allergy to certain allergens like dust and mites

4. Rarely due to Gastrooesophageal reflux

Do not worry Nebulizer is safe for kids

I would suggest you the following which will be helpful

1. Chest X ray to rule out underlying infection

2. Sputum examination if she is throwing out sputum with cough

3. Warm saline gargling : To a glass of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of common table salt. Make child gargle the throat with it thrice a day.

4. Steam inhalation : Preferably using electronic steamer. 15 minutes each session twice a day.

5. Chyawanprash : it contains XXXXXXX Gooseberry which is richest dietary source of Vitamin C which helps boost immunity

5. Thoroughly wash the bedsheets and pillow covers in hot water . It helps by removing dust

6. ENT assessment to rule out deviated nasal septum

7. Combination of Cetrizine plus Montelukast in consultation with your Pediatrician will be helpful

8. Himalaya Septilin syrup : It helps boosting immunity

If symptoms persist do consult Pediatric Pulmonolgist for further assessment.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Take care
