Suggest Treatment For Hard Lump In The Groin Area

Question: Hi, Dr. Rynne. I have a large, hard, unmovable lump in the right upper quadrant of the groin. It is larger than a golf ball. I am a 60 year-old male who is in relatively good shape and who works out regularly. I still am very nimble and active. I do have COPD, sleep apnea and pre-diabetes, but those things don't affect me too much. But now this lump, which is also a discolored white, is of concern to me. I also have 5 or 6 benign thyroid tumors, one of which is over 4 cm. long. Despite all of this, my Kaiser doctor minimizes everything and makes me feel like a hypochondriac. Because of this, I put off going to the doctor to get th e lump checked, and now it has quadrupled in size. Had I not been afraid of being put off by the doctor, I would have gone in sooner. I have an appointment with him today and am feeling the anxiety of being treated like a hypochondriac and not taken seriously. Is this something to be taken seriously, what are the different things it could be, and how do I get my doctor to take it seriously? Thank you so much for your kind reply.

Brief Answer:
Lipoma or Hernia likely

Detailed Answer:
Good day
noted your concern. First of all let me tell you that I am not Dr.Rynne. .your question seems to be in the forum for a long time unanswered and hence I decided to answer. let me tell you that the thyroid module and groin swellings probably have no relation. Even though I have not examined you, the groin swelling is likely to be a lipoma or Hernia. however an exact diagnosis is only possible after physical examination. The thyroid module certainly need to be investigated. Any thyroid nodule of more than 1 cm in size need a needle biopsy (FNA).
And your groin swelling may need an ultrasound scan as also. please discuss these points with your GP. You are the patient and you have every right to know about the reason for these lumps.

Binu
