Brief Answer:
Age not a factor; causes and treatment listed

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The most common causes for fungal nail infections are:

+Often regular cuts in and around your nails, some cuts are too small to even be seen
+Keeping the region wet or moist very often
+Often seen in warm or cold conditions (climate or temperature related)

Treatment for fungal nail infections are oral tablets like terbinafine and itraconazole which should be taken for a long duration (6-12 weeks). The rate of improvement might be good in your younger brother, but might be questionable in your mother as the treatment is a little more difficult in the elderly, especially individuals above the age of 65 years.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Dosage given sir, nothing worth mentioning

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again.

Side effects are very rare and very mild, so it is generally something we do not have to worry about.

-One tablet of terbinafine 250 mg can be taken orally on a daily basis for 6-12 weeks
or
-Two capsules (100 mg each) to be taken orally once a day for 6-12 weeks

Nothing else important to be mentioned. Keep in touch to let me know how to recovery is going.

Best wishes.
