Suggest Treatment For Fungal Infection On Upper Lip Area

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: I have some problems around the the area near the upper part of my lip. It happened on 10/4/2015 in the morning. Initially, I thought it is a kind of cold sore so I went to boots and bought the aciclovir Cold Sore Cream. But after using it for few days, the situation remains the same and I could feel the affected area is always dried up but it is not itch. And one more thing is that every time after showering, some of the dead skin on the surface will be removed but it is not not yet recovered. I want to ask what kind of medicine I should purchase and I could e-mail the pictures of the affected area on 10/4/2015 and today respectively. Thank you for your kindly attention.

Brief Answer:
??Fungal infection requiring anti-fungal topical application

Detailed Answer:
Hello Chan and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Based on the images attached and the description, following are my suggestions:

+Please stop shaving the region until the rash clears up
+Have you been using any cosmetics on the region? If so, then please stop them immediately
+Continue the application of the acyclovir topical cream to the region
+Purchase an anti-fungal cream or ointment which should be easily available in the pharmacy containing either miconazole or ketoconazole
+Do not keep the area wet
+Keep the region clean and dry
+Purchase the antibiotic medication called metronidazole 500 mg, and take one tablet twice daily after food for 10 days
+Avoid any sexually triggered activities like kissing, french kissing, oral intercourse, etc.
+Drink plenty of water

I hope you will find relief with the following. Herpes oral rash is quite different from your rash, but I would still like to continue the acyclovir cream as you have chosen that (possibly because you have had sexual contact). The more likely possibility is a fungal infection, but I would like to cover all possibilities.

Best wishes.

Dear Dr Shoaib XXXXXXX
Do I need a prescription for obtaining the anti-fungal cream and metronidazole 500mg in Boots? If so what should I do for that, could I get one here? Thank you for your kindly attention.

Brief Answer:
Prescription should not be required for either of them

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again Chan.

The anti-fungal cream will be available over the counter, so you should be able to get it in any pharmacy without a prescription. I do not really understand what you mean by BOOTS?

As for the metronidazole tablets, they are also easily available easily but some pharmacies can give you trouble to get it. Although they are not addictive and do not really cause any dependancy issues, they should be available without a prescription.

Best wishes.

Dear Dr Shoaib XXXXXXX
BOOTS is a pharmacy shop that situated in the United Kingdom. Last time when I wanted to purchase the acyclovir cream, the pharmacies request me to provide a prescription to get it. Therefore, I wanna ask whether I could purchase and get a prescription for getting the metronidazole tablets and miconazole anti fungal cream from you . Thank you for your kindl attention.

Brief Answer:
My prescription will not be valid in the UK, so it won't help

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again my friend.

I am sorry but my prescription will not get you the medications you need as I am registered in another country all together and am not registered in the UK so my prescription holds no value in the UK.

But I hope you can get your hands on these medications as they are really not that difficult to get.

Best of luck.
