Suggest Treatment For Fractured Hip In An Elderly Person While On Norco

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: Hello Dr. Yesterday I visited my 86 yr old aunt. She has been diagnosed with a fractured hip (old injury) blood clot in her right leg and was hospitalized with extreme pain last week. Both legs I found were hard as wood and quite swollen. I need to add that my aunt has diabetes and is overweight. Prior to the hospital visit, she was told to stay in bed and was given Norco. I'm worried her legs may indicate a ndition. What do you say?

Brief Answer:
Admit her in hospital.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your query.

She is suffering from Deep venous thrombosis.

Its treatment is already you are taking.

I am presuming that she is already in hospital because treatment of your aunt cannot be done outside the hospital.

If blood thinners don't work then Clot-Busting i.e Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis, Venous thrombectomy.

Don't take tension of her legs, they will be alright, but again, please admit her in hospital, its necessary.

After all that get xray of her affected hip in AP view done and send me the report.

I hope it helps.

Thanks.
