Question: Hi Team,
I am in the second trimester currently, since last week I am suffering with Foot pain. I have used heels in the last week, but I have even changed my footwear from the past two days. Could you please suggest on this as I am struggling to walk or stand. Please let me know if you need more information on the same.
Thanks,

1. Iam 18 weeks pregnant
2. Yes slightly
3. Iam using Flat heel
4. I don't have hypertension or diabetes.
Significantly, when walking or standing I have sever heel pain rather than the complete foot.

Hello Dear,
Thanks for your updated information. Followings are my comments:
1) Swelling around ankle (edema) due to fluid retention and pressure on pelvic veins (venous congestion) due to growing baby, are the underlying causes of heel pain. It is quite common during pregnancy period (2nd and 3rd trimester).
2) I can suggest you few steps to reduce heel pain or swelling. These are:
a) Rest as much as possible and keep your legs in high position than pelvis. You can use 2-3 pillows for the same.
b) Take balanced diet with small amount protein, more vegetables and citrus fruits, reduce salt intake, avoid sugary or fatty foods.
c) Do some simple foot exercise like bending and stretching your foot up and down for 20- 30 times. Use only flat heel shoe. Avoid uneven surface.
d) Massage the area with lavender or camomile oil to reduce discomfort. Use ice pack compression. Keep your feet in bowl of slight warm water with adding essential oils.
e) Don't cross your legs while sitting. Don't stand for long time in one place. Do periodic check up of blood pressure.
Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and successful motherhood.
