Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Prostate When PSA Readings Are High

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: I have had an enlarged prostate for some time. My PSA readings have been high however, 3 biopsies have been negative. Today I had a CT Scan for pains in the lower right side of my abdomen and everything mentioned in the report was fine except the following description. The prostate is markedly enlarged, heterogenous and lobulated. There is asymmetric enlargement of the right seminal vesicle as well. With all that said, is there ANY chance I do not have cancer of the prostate?

Brief Answer:
You need to repeat Prostate Biopsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have enlarged prostate with high level of PSA.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) What is your recent PSA level?
2) Have you done ultrasound or MRI guided Prostate biopsy and when was the last one done?

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examinatin and get following basic tests done to establish the diagnosis.
1) Serum PSA.
2) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning.(TRUS).
3) Ultrasound or MRI guided Prostate biopsy.

In view of heterogeneous and tabulated prostate it is likely to be benign in nature ,however high level of PSA is always suspected to be due to cancer of the prostate unless proved otherwise by a doing Prostate Biopsy.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions
I shall be happy to help you
