Suggest Treatment For Echoing In Both Ears

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I am 44 yr old female, height 154 cm and weight 67 kg. i met an ENT doc for the problem of echoing in both ears when I talk as well as others talk. This is happening for about 2 months. Doc took an audiometry which showed some hearing loss for high frequencies. He then prescribed Neurozan for 10 days. I have been taking it for 8 days but no improvements. The echoing is creating such a discomfort. I also get frequent giddy feeling and throbbing headaches on the top of skull. Sometimes it feels like someone is pulling my hair. Any advice?

Brief Answer:
continue treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query. In my opinion, you might be having middle ear disease, which is causing echoing of the talks. U might be having a coexisting inner ear problem causing h earing nerve weakness.
Continue treatment prescribed. Steam inhalation daily twice may help you. Valsalva exercises will surely be helpful. Decongestant nasal drops + decongestant tablet twice daily for 5 days is usually prescribed for this condition.
Symptoms will not improve in 8 days. It may take at least 4 weeks to improve. Repeat audiometry after 6 weeks of treatment.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.

Dear doctor, thank you so much for the detailed response. This is my first time contacting a doc online and frankly I did not expect such candid guidance. So firstly thanks.

My consulting doc also suggested steam inhalation which I have not done. Will start immediately. What is Valsalva exercise.

I think I should mention that in my annual check for the last 3-4 years, my audiometry has been consistently showing the hearing loss for higher frequencies. Also i get long rininging tone in my ears fairly often.

Could you please also say whether my giddiness or heavy head issue is also related to this.

I will continue the tablets as adviced. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
inner ear disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Based on the new information; inner ear disease which I mentioned in the first reply is more possible. Here high frequency hearing loss, tinnitus, aural fullness and giddiness are expected. All these are definitely suggestive of the inner ear disease. If your doctor hasn't discussed about inner ear disease, I feel you should do now.

Valsalva exercises will help you to reduce the echoing of talks. There are many forms of it. Google can help you list those valsalva exercises. One that I commonly use with my patient is "Close your nose and mouth and blow your ears ,followed by swallowing." This reduces the negative pressure in the ear and echoing reduces.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Dear doctor, thank you just one more clarification. I also have been having memory issues, like, what I did or talked few days ago, am unable to recollect some of them. This has been putting me in lot of embarSsments. I keep notes etc, but it does not always help.
