Suggest Treatment For Coughing And Sneezing When Diagnosed With MRSA Infection

Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: I have been exposed to MRSA by my husband, who routinely has it and by my father-in-law who lives in a continuing care home. My f-i-l recently broke his hip and was tested upon entry to the hospital. Since being in his room daily for the last week, I have started coughing, sneezing, and have symptoms of a RBI. Is it possible I could already have MRSA? Should I get checked out today if possible?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Since you have had exposure to MRSA through your husband, it is likely that you have developed some degree of immunity to the same.
The symptoms of sneezing and cough is more likely to be due to allergy or a viral infection rather than a MRSA infection. Try an antihistamine like Desloratidine in addition to your cough syrup and you may become better.
If develop fever or symptoms get worse, then it would be better to see a doctor and have yourself examined and tested.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.
