Suggest Treatment For Cough, Cold And Blocked Nose In Child

Question: Hello doctor' my one year son has cough and cold . running nose with block cold from nose. No fever and he is active. Kindly suggest me some medicine to get rid of it.

I am sorry to hear that your child is not doing well. He is probably suffering from a viral infection which is causing his symptoms. The following will help in relieving the symptoms:

1. Give the child Syrup Relent 2.5 ml twice daily for 4 days. It contains an antiallergic in addition to expectorant. It will help in relieving both the cough and the runny nose.
2. Use saline nasal drops like Nasoclear 1 drop in each nostril as required in order to clear the nose. If it does not help, you may try Nasivion nasal drops.
3. Give steam inahalation. Just sit with the child on your lap with the source of steam before you. The water vapour will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. It will reach deep into the lungs and help in diluting the cough.

Generally such infections last for 5-10 days. It may also be associated with fever. But if you feel that the child is wheezing, you would need to take the child to a doctor.
