Posted on Fri, 16 Jan 2015
Question: Everyday, particularly in the early evening time, I feel as if there is a layer of mucus deposit in my throat. When I try to eject it, it does not go away. Then with a tooth brush I try throwing up. At an ejection attempt huge bubbles appears in my mouth which I spit out. I repeat the attempt 7-8 times and eject and spit out bubbles. Then I feel a sense of relief. What is the cause and what is the remedy of this problem?

I have read your query and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having allergic post nasal discharge .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
Plenty of fluids ,
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray thrice &
Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Montelukast combination at night .

1. There is never any discharge from my nostrils. I do not have a runny nose. The nasal passages seem to remain dry and open mostly.
2. In the past I tried saline spray but it did not help. Antihistamine does not appear to go well with my body.
3. Could this problem relate to stomach gas because burping, when it occurs, seems to help get some gas out and a feeling of relief follows. However, burping does not occur unless some salt and ginger taken slowly causes burping.

Let me ask a basic question: does this problem concern an ENT specialist or it needs to be handled by a different specialist? Some months ago an ENT man gave it up as "non-specific" and said, "uncle, you would get well". Please advise if I am entitled to a second opinion from another more related specialist.
