Brief Answer:
Yes retroperistalytic moments can cause pain and spasm in abdominal muscles

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for asking query on this forum Dear patient,
Have gone through your questions and would be answering your queries.

Peristalsis is a series of wave-like muscle contractions that moves food to different processing stations in the digestive tract. The process of peristalsis begins in the esophagus when a bolus of food is swallowed and continues till food is excreted.
Vomiting basically is a sort of retroperistalytic moment.Vomiting causes forceful expulsion of contents of the stomach.A large amount iof force is required to counter the normal peristaltic moment and to move things against gravity. For this body has a mechanism called Retroperistalsis. It is the reverse of the involuntary smooth muscle contractions of peristalsis. It usually occurs as a precursor to vomiting. Local irritation of the stomach, such as bacteria or food poisoning, activates the emetic center of the brain which in turn signals an imminent vomiting reflex. This reflex requires a lot of force of contraction as food is reverted back against the force of gravity hence rectus abdominis muscles(main muscle) of abdomen can get sprained or over fatigued causing painful contraction or tightening of a muscle suddenly.
So don't worry what you felt was a normal physiological phenomenon.

Thanks.
