Question: Hello doctor
Am a 27 year old female. I have just noticed a lump on the back of my left hand. It's not a lesion on the skin, but it clearly seems like a bump on my bone. It doesn't hurt but am worried.

Brief Answer:
Need some more details

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I would request you to examine the lump in some more details

What is the approximate size of the lump ?
What is the consistency of the lump ? Compare it to known objects.
Examine whether it hurts on applying hard pressure on it ?
Whether it is freely XXXXXXX or fixed ?
Is it on any bony prominence ?

It's a little smaller than the size of a pea. It's very hard and bony no fluid inside. It doesn't hurt, yet. It's fixed. It's not very superficial, no prominal protrusion on top of the skin. But the entire part seems a little inflammed as compared to my right hand

Brief Answer:
osteitis or chondritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the information.

Based on the description you provided, I believe the lesion you have could be a minor osteitis (inflamed bony point) or a inflamed cartilage.

There is no need worry as it is small and non tender. This can regress itself without any treatment.

If the lump tends to grow in size or becomes painful, then there is a need for you to get a Xray done to ascertain the cause and plan the management.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
