Brief Answer:
Yes drug is OK and have to be given for atleast 2 years

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Seizures in children in this age group may be due to various cause but Centro temporal spikes with normal MRI and cognitive development may be seen in Benign epilepsy with Centro temporal spikes (BECTS).
The disease is benign with seizures of short duration occurring in sleep or on awakening.
Low doses of antiepileptics like oxcarbamazepine or Valproate may be helpful for control.
Seizure remission occurs with normal cognition before age 15 in most patients.
Drugs can be tapered and stopped earlier also if complete control is there for more than 2 years.
Please provide more clinical and investigation details.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
Neuroimaging may be negative in some cases of epilepsy

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Epilepsy or seizure are caused by genetic predisposition, structural causes, metabolic derangement and some rare causes. Ct or MRI is positive in structural and metabolic causes and may be negative in others.
The pathology in epilepsy lies at microstructural level at synapse and may not be detected on neuroimaging.
EEG detects electrical impulses originated at these synapses and thus may be positive in such cases.
The investigations for epilepsy includes blood test, eeg and neuroimaging.
The treatment is usually started with one drug at low dose and gradually increased as needed.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
