Avoid all sweet items, fried food, white flour.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Hi and thanks for asking a very relevant question.
Diet in diabetes, is a very important parameter to regulate blood glucose as well as blood lipids and body weight.
To begin with there are a few simple principles
1. Eat small frequent meals.
2. Eat at least 6 times a day, 3 major meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner
and 3 snacks - mid morning, early evening and late evening or if you are taking early dinner then a bed time snack in place of late evening snack.
4. Snack - not more than 100 calories, XXXXXXX in fiber
5. Major meal not more than 400-500 calories.
6. Drink 2-3 liters of water every day
7. Rainbow color plate which means - green vegetable, white curd, yellow pulses, brown chapati, red tomato, carrot as salads,
8. Grossly, avoid all sweets, sweet items, fried food, butter, ghee, cheese, mayonnaise, white flour based items like white bread, pizza, burgers, avoid all soft drinks, juices, avoid mutton, red meat
9. Free access to salads, home made soups, coconut water, lime water, butter milk, low tone milk.
10. Fresh fruits like XXXXXXX papaya, sweet lime, oranges, guava, pear, you can have in moderation (100 gm at one time as snack)
11. Rice - either brown unpolished ones, or boiled in excess water and starch drained. vegetables like potato - boiled can be consumed, but not fried or cooked in XXXXXXX creamy gravy
13. Never skip meals. Never overeat.
12. Always supplement your diet with regular exercise for 30-45 minutes.
