Suggest Remedy For Swelling On The Arm After Fracture

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: My daughter recently fractured her right elbow (dominant arm) after falling on her elbow onto some bricks. I am posting a link to the picture of her x-ray. Would you recommend taking a wait and see if it heals approach or perform a surgery? It is said to be a fractured radial head, mildly displaced, with angulation and impaction. Her arm is very swollen currently as the injury happened 4 days ago. Image of her x-ray http://postimg.org/image/q94ihrjsx/

Brief Answer:
Surgery is the best option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached X-ray film. The radial head is fractured and displaced. It is also impacted. The chances of healing in a cast are less. She will not get a complete range of movement if treated conservatively. The best approach for her is surgical removal of radial head. This will help in early healing and full range of movement. The chances of osteoarthritis will also be lesser after a surgery.
I hope this answers your query.
