Question: hi
I got surgery to repair my collarbone about 9 months ago and a plate and 7 screws were inserted. I haven't had any problems with it until this morning when a bump has shown up and I'm sore but it's not too painful. what do you think happened? did the plate move or is it swelling for some reason?

Brief Answer:
An x-ray should be done to rule out infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

As you have some plate in your body, it can irritate the tissues. Sometimes such plate and screws irritate the tissues so much that the body tries to reject it. This can cause kind of bump and swelling.
Infection is always the possibility. It can start with bump and pain and than turn into some kind of abscess. Plate movement after 9 months is hardly possible.

I suggest you to visit your orthopedist. An x-ray should be done to rule out bone infection and soft tissues ultrasound to find out about possible fluid collections.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
