Question: I have a medium size rectecele. Lately, have been under acute stress due to loss of family member. Have been lifting heavy things. Have lost appetite. Have been crying a lot. Have lost 8 lbs in two weeks. Am over weight. Have headaches. Here's the question: can any or all these symptoms cause fecal incontinence?

In the interim, how can I get some nutrition? I can't hold in any of the nutrition drinks like Ensure. Can't get an appointment until one scheduled for next week. This condition just worsened since I made the appointment on Thursday (4 days ago). I have been drinking green tea. If I eat even one dry cracker, I have leakage when I walk around. I am a very, very active 70 year old. This condition is inconvenient.

Brief Answer:
take tablet loperamide which may help In relieving leakage

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back. Meanwhile what you can do take some antisecretory agent like loperamide it may help in preventing leakage by causing hardening of the stool. However the treatment will be surgical only and get it as soon as possible as it is causing problems. Wish you a good health

I imagine a few tests like a CT scan, MRI, or otherwise some sort of diagnostic test will have to be performed to base a decision as definitive and final as a surgical remedy. Is this correct? And to take a stool hardener seems a bit drastic right now, but a good suggestion, nonetheless. I'm afraid it could put more strain on the rectocele. All I need to know right now is how can I nourish my body for a week? What foods will most likely help normal digestion process?

Brief Answer:
avoid dairy products and take high caloric and high protein diet

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back. Yes for confirmation both physical examination and mri are required. You may take high protein diet by taking soyabean, pulses etc And high caloric diet like fried potatoes. Avoid dairy products and fibrous diet. I know at this point taking loperamide can be problematic but no other option is there and if you titrate the dose according to stool consistency then it may be very usedul also.I hope I have answered your query and rhis will help you.
