Brief Answer:
These are normal. Nothing needs to be done. May stay 15 day to 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the description as well as the attached images. Let me assure you that in newborns it is absolutely normal to have such rashes and nothing needs to be done about it. These are caused due to deposits of debris of epidermal cells. Usually they disappear by 3 months of age but there can be variations and anyhow you need not get concerned.

You need to do nothing about these. Stay relaxed.

Thanks for the reply. He had been placed in phototherapy for 2days due to high bilirubin n later discharged as values came down in 2 days. Is this rashes due to keeping in that blue light.
Also should I put continue with that desonide cream as suggested by the other doc.
Should I take any special care wen I give him bath.

Brief Answer:
Not an effect of the blue light. Does not require treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Before birth the fetus has to extract oxygen from the mother and hence possesses more hemoglobin as compared to that of the mother. After birth this excess hemoglobin has no use and is broken down into bilirubin and hence neonatal jaundice may physiologically occur in children after the 3rd day of life. Phototherapy helps in elimination of this excess bilirubin with urine. It is not the cause of the present rash. The present rash is called milia which does not require any treatment. I would not suggest the application of desonide cream. The following link would be helpful for you:

Thanks a lot doctor for your detailed reply.
Lastly pls let me know whether I should be cautious regarding anything like using of oils or specific type of soap while giving bath.. showing him to sunlight in the early morning( should we avoid) ...food I intake so that I don't make his condition worser.

Brief Answer:
Exposure to sunlight is a good thing.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Use baby soap. Use of oil is not mandatory but no problems if you use it. No specification or caution regarding use of oil. Exposure to sunlight would be a good thing and need not be avoided. The only food to be given to the child upto 6 months of age is breast milk and nothing else, not even water. About the food of the mother, there is no specification. Just give her any healthy food and things would be fine.

Hope that helps.
