Posted on Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Question: I am experiencing swelling on my ring finger joint with some pain to touch. I also woke up two days ago with pain & swelling on my first joint on my left index finger, which is now gone after I started taking Curamin, but I am still having swelling on my ring finger and cannot remove my wedding ring. I have also pain on the side of my rt foot by the big toe for some time now.

Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis. Needs further investigation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Are you able to straighten your ring finger on your own without any pain or clicking sensation?

Do your fingers feel stiff especially in the morning?

Any pain at the back of the neck or knees ?

According to your history, it goes in favour of degenerative arthritis, like Osteoarthritis.

This can affect multiple joints especially the knees and the finger joint just after the nail.

I advise you to perform hot fomentation over the painful joints. Take pain killer like Tablet Paracetamol or Acetaminophen 1000mg twice a day. Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol. Eat healthy.

Also need to rule out Gout and Hallux valgus. You need to get tested for blood investigations like Serum Uric acid, Complete blood count, CRP,Rheumatoid factor.

Kindly get an Xray and upload it for me to clear on the diagnosis and advise targeted treatment.

Curamin may be helpful for pain relief but the side effects are unknown and not understood because it is a herbal product. It would be best to avoid it.

I hope I have answered your query,

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
