Brief Answer:
Possibly due to Surgical site infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms,

Presence of signs of inflammation and pain at site of Surgery suggest Surgical Site infection. Clinical examination will be required by Surgeon to rule out underlying collection. I would suggest you to consult Surgeon for further assessment.

In the meantime I would suggest the following

1. Local application of Hot water fomentation will be helpful

2. Analgesic/Anti-inflammatory will be helpful in relieving the pain and discomfort

3. If the operated site is in limb, elevation of limb will reduce inflammatory oedema

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Thank you for your suggestion. Yes i will let her know. The procedure was done abroad. Out of curiosity, why hot compresses versus cold?

Brief Answer:
Hot compresses increases local blood flow

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Hot compresses increases the local blood supply by causing vasodilation (cold compress causes vasoconstriction ) and helps wash away pain causing substance and helps fight infection. Hence hot compresses are preferred.

As I have not seen her would nor examined her it will be difficult to comment on exact status of Surgical site.

Do let know the opinion of physician after clinical assessment.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.
