Brief Answer:
It is likely to be retinal detachment and you might need urgent medical attention

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

I carefully read your question and understand your concerns.

Light flushing at the back of the eye is a common complaint in patients that develop retinal detachment and it is very crucial to have a visit as soon as possible with the eye doctor. The eye doctor will examine your eye with a simple non-invasive (not painful) test called slit lamp examination which will allow him to see at the back of your eye and check the retina.

If there is retinal detachment there is need for quick diagnosis and treatment to prevent detachment of other areas of the retina and prevent vision loss. It is true that the light goes away in a short time (as it happens the moment of the detachment and than disappears) but that does not mean you are not a risk for further development of the detachment.

So to conclude i would say that you need to have a check with your eye doctor as soon as possible- if there is a risk for retinal detachment it is considered eye emergency and you need to have it quickly ruled it out or ruled it in to take the proper treatment if there is needed.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to reply in case anymore clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards and take care,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
