Suggest Remedies For Clicking Sound In Ribs Post An Injury

Question: Hi. I had an extremely hard fall on my back onto some stairs in the rain. Xray showed no breaks in either my back, neck, or hip area; no head trauma (no impact). However, since I fell directly back, but rotated somewhat onto my left ribs, one area of my ribs (lower back left) makes a slight 'click' when I push lightly; probably slight cartilage injury I suppose. I hurt, but can function. Anyway, I could get up and walk/drive after the fall, but it was really high and hard onto the stair edges (3). Since then (about 24 hours), have experienced constipation, and was worried about that. Should I worry about the rib injury or constipation, or just keep going?

Brief Answer:
Constipation not related to fall...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the accident you had.

If you had the fall within the past 24 hours, then, it is normal to feel that "click" sound when moving. It is due to cartilage and other inter-bones structures.

I advise to apply cold compresses for the next 24 hours. After a total of 48 hours after falling, should apply alternating warm and cold compresses to relieve the pain and inflammation.

With regards to constipation, it is not related to the fall. Besides, if you have not had any bowel movement(bm) within 24 hours, that is not called constipation. It depends on what you are eating and meds you might have been using.

Take more fiber rich foods, avoid dairy (yogurt, cheese,); take kiwi, figs or ripe XXXXXXX Avoid pinnaple, or other citrus fruits until bowel movement will be back to normal.

Increase water intake; gentle laxative candies containing senna extract can help.

If no bm within the next week or more, then, should seek medical help.

Hope it was of help!
