Brief Answer: Facial hair treatments Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic. Hair removal creams or 'chemical depilatory' contain active ingredients like calcium thioglycolate or potassium thioglycolate, which breaks down the disulfide bonds in keratin and weakens the hair so that it is easily scraped off where it emerges from the hair follicle. Chemical depilatories are used primarily for the arms and legs. Facial skin is delicate and may become irritated to these creams. Veet hair removal cream is a popular OTC brand for hair removal. I usually don't ask my patients to use it on face. Eflornithine hydrochloride is also available in a cream form. It slows down the rate of hair growth and also makes the slightly hair soft and finer, by interfering with the metabolism of hair. Therefore while using it, you might not feel the need to shave as frequently, as without it. It has to be applied daily and for 4-6 weeks continuously, for noticeable effects. However, since it reversibly inhibits the hair metabolism, therefore as soon as (generally 4-8 weeks after stopping) the application of cream is stopped, the hair growth rate and hair quality, goes back to the same to what it was before applying the cream. Popular brands marketed in India by the name of 'Eflora cream' OR 'Elyn cream' contains 13.9% eflornithine hydrochloride. On the other hand, Laser hair reduction (LHR) is the most acceptable method for unwanted facial hair with long lasting results. LHR is absolutely safe. Apart from mild redness post-laser which goes away with ice-pack application there are really no side effects with LHR, if done by a well trained/experienced expert. I hope this information helps you regards
