Suggest Food And Medication For Infants
Question: Hello Dr,
Current medications for newly borned twins [1st July 2014] are: Uprise D3, Macalvit syrup,
Now babies have almost completed 5 months so do we need to increase the dose of above mentioned medications? and if yes then what quantity it should have for both babies?
Also please let us know which other feeds [instead of Mother and NAN milk powder] we can start for babies in 6th month?
Also please guide us on how can we prevent them from COLD or virul infection?
Please suggest.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing to us.
The dose of the uprise d3 remains the same ,i.e 1ml per day till they reach 1 yr of age.
Macalvit dose also remains the same,,but it ll better to get thier weight checked and adjust the dose especially for macalvit.
For 6 months best weaning food will be home made multi grain mix-ragi, wheat, rice , green gram, black gram , all soaked in water dried , fried powdered and cooked.
You can even start smashed boiled apple, raw ripe papaya,,smashed boiled potato.
Go slowly on weaning foods, dont over feed.
It ll be better if you fix an appointment with your pediatrician and discuss about the weaning foods in detail.
Prevention of cold and flu is to prevent the child coming into contact with infected persons and following regular vaccination schedule guided by your pediatrician,,
