Suggest An Effective Alternative For Dependal M

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I am having a Stomach Ache since yesterday.

In the past I would take Depandal M 2 - 3 doses and it would get fine.

Now Dependal M is not available, what is the alternative I can use for the same.

I have had ache starting yesterday along with loose motion and fever. I took Imodium, which cured the loose motion and also took Mobizox for the fever and the body cramps. Repeated the same at night as the fever returned along with the pain.

Now I am fine and in fact constipated. There was a mild stomach cramp/ache in the morning as I had my breakfast, however, now its not there howeber my body feels sluggish and I am still relaxing on the bed.

Brief Answer:
It looks like gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
It is not advisable to take medication like depandal m without consulting doctor. They are prescription based agent and I would suggest you not to do the same .

I would like to know few more information like
How many episodes of loose motions you had?
Was it watery? Was there any blood?
Did you eat out side foo?

Based on the information I feel you have gastroenteritis.

Most cases of gastroenteritis are caused by viruses and requires only symptomatic treatment, consuming contaminated foods or drinks is another common cause.

You do not need antibiotic and also not anti diarrhoeal agent.
I would suggest you to drink plenty of water or electrolyte solutions to prevent dehydration.
Add bland foods to your diet, such as bananas, toast, oatmeal and rice in small amounts every couple of hours. Avoid spicy food. Restrict meat for few days.
You can take curd which will be beneficial.

You can take capsule omeprazole 20 mg before breakfast, empty stomach once daily for a week. Probiotics like sporolac or ecobion will be beneficial.

For fever and body aches instead of mobizox, I would have put you on tablet ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily for 3 days.

In case if your symptoms persist, I would have asked for stool routine examination and based on the report I would have decided on the next line of management (requirement of antibiotic)

Hope this helps
Take care.

I ate some Thai Rice & Chicken yesterday morning which was a leftover meal from a restaurant from Saturday and that is in my opinion the cause of this problem.

I only had 2 episodes of loose motion. One in the afternoon yesterday and the other in the evening about 6.00 pm after which i took Imodium.

The stool was watery may be some blood.

I took Imodium again at night 1 pm as the pain re-surfaced along with fever.

Since morning I have has no motion, only gas. So I am actually constipated.

There is no consistent pain however sporadic spasm/pain. Since morning I have felt it 5-6 times and it just lasts for a couple/few seconds.

Meals since yesterday evening:
Dinner: I took moong dal and ajwain roti yesterday night.
Breakfast: Brown Bread Toast with Butter n Jam with Tea (Saunf & Moti Elaichi Water)
Lunch: Jeera Rice and Curd.

Ibuproprofen does not suit me as I get shivering after consuming that. I have no fever since morning but general weakness in the body, which is better over time.

I have not taken any medication since morning either.

Please suggest the medication to ensure proper motion and relief from the sporadic pain.

thank you...

Brief Answer:
Follow the measures mentioned in the earlier post

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Good to hear from you
I would suggest you to follow the advice suggested in the earlier post.
Go for the medication like omez and probiotics. And the food that has been mentioned above.
I would suggest you to avoid eating left over food, it is better to eat freshly prepared home made food. Apart from the above medication I would not suggest you any medications like laxative for now. Drink plenty of water. You should be fine.
Hope this helps
