Question: Sir I have got facial problem dignosed as Left hemifacial spasm

what are tretments available for it in allopathy ? Is MRI bRAIN IS NECESSARY ?

I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Hemifacial spasm have following treatment options-
1) Drugs-Carbamazepine is the drug of choice and about 70% patients respond to it.Clonazepam may be of help in some persons.
2)'Botulinum toxin' is very effective in patients not responding to drugs.

MRI Brain is necessary to rule out any structural cause for hemifacial spasm.Some of the secondary causes of hemifacial spasm are aberrant vessels or some tumor at the brainstem.So,MRI is must to confirm that hemifacial spasm is primary and there is no secondary cause.
