Question: Referring this question to Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX cardiologist... Hello Doctor, am 29 year old female...married and breastfeeding my 1.5 year old... few months back, I posted to you experiencing some weird sensation in the heart and it gradually got better without any medications... Doctor I have now got a new but some serious problem... Last month, when I was giving breakfast to my kid, out of no where my heart started racing fast... I tried to relax..it was in vain...so went to ER and my pulse was around 140 to 150... They immediately took ECG... except tachycardia, it was fine...they took some more tests for further evaluation including echo, thyroid and others... everything came back normal...they had me on IV and within few hours, my pulse got normal...they didn't give betablocker since I was breastfeeding... I was fine for a month with no episodes of fast rates until today morning... I had some 30 min brisk walk on my terrace, came home, felt realxed and immediately had milkshake...and out of no where, my heart started racing so fast...pulse was around 135...this time, I tried relaxing and deep breathing before heading to hospital...and within 2 hours, my heart rate gradually went to normal without any medications.... I have attached reports during the first episode for your reference.. Pls tell me what could be the cause? Is it sinus tachycardia or supraventricular tachycardia as my onset was sudden... Are there any natural ways to prevent it ? is this condition normal at this young age? Please help

Doctor, I have attached my reports. Please don't assume it's panic attack because my episode came all of a sudden when I was perfectly relaxed. Thank you. I didn't take ecg today during my second episode today as I was control at home. Please let me know what's going on with me. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the feedback.

All your reports a perfectly within normal limits even the ECG is a simple sinus tachycardia and not a supraventricular tachycardia or paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. So there is nothing significant or alarming to be concerned.

Now, I very well know that these episodes can be bothering and frequent episodes can also affect the daily life. Beta blockers are generally advised to control or to keep a check on such episodes but as you’re breastfeeding so it’s better to avoid going on daily beta blockers.

The best option as of now which I can suggest is to maintain a healthy lifestyle routine with the help of healthy eating and going for a daily morning walk. This might not be very appealing but trust me this is best for you as of now.

Kind Regards

Thank you Doctor. I would be really glad if you answer my following queries... 1. Any idea why is this happening as I've never had them before? Can it damage the heart if happened frequently? 2. Are there any specific food triggers for it to happen?... As I mentioned, I had two episodes so far within a gap of one month and both the times, I had it in the morning and had food cooked in microwave for dinner the previous night..could this be a reason? I had wheat breads both the times too... 3. Is it a must to visit ER? Like today, I tried deep breathing n listened to music n had it under control within 2 hours... Can I do like that next time or should I visit the doctor? 4. As far as lifestyle changes, since the first episode a month back, I'm doing daily exercise for 30 mins and eating plant based foods.. I've cut down on sugar, caffeine, fried foods, etc. Anything more should I do? Thanks
