My Tooth 14 Is Having Resorption Issues Below The Gum

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Feb 2020
Question: My tooth 14 is having resorption issues below the gum line..I guess from the xray all my roots are fused together..I just removed 16 because of resorption issues and I guess it exposed the back side of the tooth which I have a pocket of 8.. I guess the only solution is extraction .. I just hate to lose another tooth.. because the root is fused together will it be difficult to remove? What about replacing it with an implant will that be difficult because of the sinus cavity? What problems could happen ? Because my bone resorption is at a 8 am I at high risk for an abscess? It is hurting a little especially when being probed.

Brief Answer:
Recommended consulting a dentist for a new X-ray to evaluate resorption and treatment plan.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for consulting Ask a doctor service
This is Dr. Priyanka answering your query.

I have read your query and gone through the x-ray you have uploaded. As far as bone resorption is concerned it result in abscess and tooth mobility which is due to aging process or bone-related disease.

As you are asking for the difficulty to remove, NO it is not difficult to remove. Consult Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon specialty for extraction.

After removal yes you can replace it with an implant. Consult Oral surgeon for investigation OPG ie full mouth X-ray for evaluation of sinus floor. If the sinus floor is close then uplifting to maxillary sinus is a small process that can be done. Before all this, you have to get a good Xray for proper evaluation and diagnosis.

If you have it kindly upload the X-ray so that I can review it as well.

Awaiting the OPG X-ray to comment further
Hope this will help you

Hello XXXXXXX

Welcome

Yes tooth can make you feel unhealthy and uneasiness and on long term infected tooth and gum bacteria can affect your heart .
So i meanwhile you dont have to worry so much first consult oral surgeon for new OPG xray and go for currettage treatment for pocket.(Periodontal disease) -Do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day .
-Use chlorhexidine mouthwash once daily .

Hope this will help you

So do you think this tooth can be saved with the absorption and deep pocket on the distal side or is it better off to remove it and go with implant.. will the pocket heal after I remove the tooth or will this continue to give me problems..the time frame is 3 months before an implant will that heal ..

Also with the xray ..do you think the sinus cavity will need to be lifted? Is there enough room to put a implant in without interfering with the sinus

Get new xray for proper diagnosis and treatment plan

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Welcome

As far as i have observed your xray you have resorption and pocket on distal side of tooth 8 so i will suggest you to consult dentist for new xray and if there is more resorption and mobility in tooth then get it removed after that your gum heal and there will be no issue of pocket .

As far as sinus cavity is concerned it is close to first molar 6 so for that we have to take precautions and if needed surgery would be done . So in other tooth repalcement sinus will not interfere in replacement .

Hope this will help you .
If you have furhter query i will be happy to help.

I already had the number 15 removed so just looking at 14 next to the implant.. is that where you see resorption? So will 14 have trouble with the sinus cavity

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back,

Yes, there is resorption inbetween 4th tooth and 6 molar tooth. I am not sure about your right or left as your OPG X-ray is not correctly uploaded and that why I am telling you to get a new OPG x-ray so that resorption pattern and sinus floor are correctly seen.

Again, I will suggest you consult an oral surgeon for a new OPG x-ray and if there are less resorption and no mobility then don't go for extraction.

In that scenario, you can opt for treatment curettage and get a new crown over 6 molar tooth. If there are more resorption and mobility then go for extraction and repalcement tooth by the implant .

Sinus cavity trouble is there if you are replacing 6th tooth molar not trouble with the 14.

I will also suggest not to upload older xrays that will confuse your doctor to give you a proper diagnosis.

Hope this will help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome

Yes, I am talking about tooth next to the implant. Resportion is there between 4 and 6 tooth but the treatment plan depends on the clinical examination which confirms mobility and x-ray which confirms the resorption and sinus floor.

Hope this will help you.
If you have any further query I will be happy to help

Ok got it.. thanks so much..just because there is a deep pocket of 8 on the distal does not mean I have to remove it? It is real sore when they do probing but I would love to keep that tooth.. there is no movement in the tooth just soreness on the distal side.. can I try gargling with salt water and try to correct that pocket? Just because you have resorption doesn’t mean infection right? Thank you thank you so much!!! I appreciate you so much .. sorry I have so many questions

Yes if you have a pocket that doesn't mean there is so much infection or you have to go for extraction.

If there is no mobility on clinical examination then go for curettage of teeth (deep cleaning) by consulting oral surgeon. Do warm salt water rinses. Do Chlorhexidine mouthwash. Brush your teeth with a soft-bristle toothbrush.

Follow these measures that will be helpful for you.
You can upload a new x-ray afterward and ask a direct query to me I will help you in giving you the diagnosis.

If you have a further query feel free to ask I will be happy to help anytime...
