Question: My question is for my mother. She is 71 years old she has diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension. She is on losartin, along with a cholesterol med. In January she ended up having to go to the emergency Room because her blood pressure spiked really high with a systolic of 200 and a diastolic in the 100's. They were able to get her blood pressure down with Conidine and hctz. They ended up running a bunch of tests on her including a CT scan. They diagnosed her with hyperaldosteronism and said the CT scan was normal, But when I look at the findings it said that she had hyperplasia lor hyperthrophy in her adrenal glands. The CT was done in March, and it's now XXXXXXX Her follow up is in July. I called her doctor's office about the finding and they said if they were concerned about the finding they would have brought her in sooner. My question is with out seeing a mass in the adrenal gland, doesn't that mean that something else is causing the drain a glance to enlarge, Meaning shouldn't they be ruling out an ACTH producing tumor or a pituitary tumor?

Brief Answer:
About high blood pressure causes:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I can understand your concern regarding to your mother's health.
Your concern is right, but you should know that in cases of resistant high blood pressure, the whole hormonal panel is done, so they checked all the hormones (including Cortisol and ACTH) and Aldosterone has resulted high.
High aldosterone can be treated with ARB until a final treatment (surgery) is performed.
It is not an emergency and you should not get worried.
Hope the information will help.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
